Charles T. Kaelber, M.D, Dr.P.H., serves as vice president for academic affairs.
In this capacity Dr. Kaelber works to develop and promote alliances and
networks of researchers, educators, clinicians, and others whose
collaborative research and clinical training efforts will strengthen the
body of knowledge dealing with the integration of health and spirituality.
Dr. Kaelber received his M.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University
School of Medicine, followed by an internship in internal medicine at The
Johns Hopkins Hospital. Thereafter he completed a residency in general
preventive medicine at the Harvard School of Public Health where he was also
enrolled in academic programs, leading to his being awarded the M.P.H. and
Dr. P.H. degrees. Subsequently he also completed a residency in general
psychiatry at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C. He has received
certification from both the American Board of Preventive Medicine and the
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Before coming to ICIHS Dr. Kaelber served as a Medical Officer in the
US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps at the National Institutes of Health. He held various research and research administrative assignments
at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the National Institute on
Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and the National Institute of Mental Health.
In addition to this experience in the NIH research environment, Dr. Kaelber
also has held teaching appointments at a number of academic institutions.
These include The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the Harvard School of
Public Health, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences,
Georgetown University, and the University of South Carolina School of
